I know that this sounds ridiculous from a dietitian, but I HATE grocery shopping. There is something so mentally exhausting to me about going to the grocery store. There is so much sensory overload and so much decision making and both of those things make me want to just go home and lie in bed with a rag over my head. Every item I choose, I am weighing the price and trying to make the healthiest decision, while also making sure I am saving money. Not to mention, going to all grocery stores close require a trip through bad traffic...and I HATE traffic more than I hate grocery shopping. Maybe I was spoiled with a grocery store in walking distance before and maybe I just need to quit whining, but bottom line is that I dread going to the grocery store now.
Our culture is so spoiled with having most things available with just a click of a button, isn’t it? I am definitely guilty of this for sure. But hey, if it is more convenient and makes you more productive (or in my case, a better wife), then what’s the harm? Amazon Prime Pantry has made life easier for me when it comes to cleaning supplies or the other basic necessities. The downside to it is that you are limited to the groceries you can order and can’t get most things on the outer perimeter of a grocery store (like the produce and meats).
Soooo I have found my newest favorite and convenient option: Kroger Click List!!!!!!!
Kroger Click List has really been a game changer for me the past few months. I literally can spend hours in the grocery store so I feel like I have been saving hours on my life...HOURS. It definitely has its pros and cons but the convenience of finding my recipes and then finding all the ingredients with the click of a button without getting distracted by all the other things has been so helpful. Thomas and I had done the online shopping and pick up with Harris Teeter when it was here in Nashville and I honestly was not very impressed so I was a little hesitant to do the Kroger Click List. BUTTT I am happy to report that the Kroger Click List has met my expectations for the most part!
I have put together a list of the pros and cons on the Kroger Click List to help you decipher whether this is something you might want to do. You might just save hours in your life too.
PROS OF KROGER CLICK LIST
The convenience of being able to write your grocery list down, search it online, and virtually place it in your cart to pick up on your own time is the BEST PART ABOUT IT!
2. You Can Make Your Grocery List On The Same App
I’ll say it again...GAME CHANGER. I have so many different lists that I create to remind myself of what to get at the grocery store soo why not use the same app I use to purchase my groceries online and create just ONE list?! Just build your list up as your week goes on and when you find the things that you may need at the grocery store.
3. You Can Find Coupons And Upload Them To Your Card
I will be honest with you; I am the worst couponer (and I don’t even think that is a word). I don’t do well with hanging on to coupons that I get after purchases and I end up throwing them away. This has mad it so easy to scroll through the coupons, add them to your coupon list and have them automatically uploaded onto your phone.
4. It Saves Your Recent Purchases
It remembers all your recent purchases so that you can easily find your frequent purchases and restock. This makes my life so much easier because I always forget some of the things I got before.
5. You Can Specify Exactly What You Want
When I used Harris Teeter’s online shopping and pick up, the thing that I hated the most was meat selection. They did not give you a lot of options to be specific about what exactly you are looking for when it came to your meats and produce. Kroger Click List gives you an option to be specific with the things that you purchase. For example: when ordering meats you can ask for a particular size, thicker or thinner cut, etc; or with fruit you can specify the amount and size you that you want as well. This has been super helpful but has had its downside to it as you will see in my other list below.
6. Time Saver
I already told you before that I would spend HOURS of my life in the grocery store trying to find things or just getting distracted by all the things I didn’t need. This has saved SOOOO much time and now I don’t actually dread going to the grocery store to pick up my food.
And now for some of the downsides to the Kroger Click List...
CONS OF KROGER CLICK LIST
1. You Can’t Pick Out Your Own Produce Or Meat
I can be kind of picky about the fruits, vegetables, and meats that I buy. This was the part that I was skeptical about when doing it for the first time. For the most part, my produce and meats were good but there were some that I may not have chosen myself. Not all of it was bad and I could definitely work with what I got but they just seemed to look a little bruised or like they would probably not last as long.
2. There Can Be Some Misunderstanding Via Internet
I explained how great the feature is that you can specify exactly what you want with your food when it comes to amount, size, etc. The downside is that sometimes they don’t understand exactly what you mean in your explanation. I asked for bananas and decided to get specific on one of my orders. I like my bananas to be smaller because that is more accurate to an appropriate portion, so I told them I wanted "small bananas, about 4-5 inches long.” What I got instead? One small banana. ONE. Not a bundle, but one. Not sure what got miscommunicated there but at least I only got charged for one.
That is really all I have found to be negative out of this whole experience and I definitely think that the pros outweigh the cons here. I’d say if it makes my life easier and makes me a better wife and dog mom (because I am spending less time in the grocery store and more time walking them), then I am going to continue to get my groceries with just the click of a button...kind of.
